An Update from the Elders – March 20, 2020

Good morning Rainbow family! After much prayer and thought, the Elders have decided to suspend all services include our Sunday morning worship until further notice. This was an extremely difficult decision, but a necessary one to protect the flock—especially those of you in the high-risk category—and to respect the orders given by the Alabama Department of Public Health.

We will absolutely miss worshipping with our brothers and sisters in person, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still worship together. We are working diligently to put together quality services that can be viewed online so you can continue to worship and study together virtually. These will continue to be posted on Facebook and YouTube.

The Elders also want to make you aware of a couple of other items. We have prefilled communion cups available for pickup today at the church building from 12-4 and Saturday from 12-4. We encourage you to only take what you need for the next 3 weeks. The Elders also encourage our members to make their own communion, if possible, in order to save the prefilled communion cups for those who are unable to do so. Also, if you need communion, but cannot pick it up, please call the church or any of the elders and let us know. We will get it to you.

Contributions can be dropped off at the building anytime during the week or mailed to the church. We will also be rolling out our online giving option in the next few days if you are interested in using that option. We will let you know as soon as it is available and will be giving instructions on how to use it.

Please know we are here for you. If you need assistance or just need to talk, do not hesitate to call us. Please watch and listen for updates. There will be more decisions to be made in the days to come. Please check your texts, phones, and Facebook often.

We love you! We are here for you. Please remain safe and continue to pray. God is great!

The Elders of Rainbow share in your concerns of the impact the COVID-19 virus will have in the worship assemblies, Bible Classes, and ministry of our church family.

We plan to meet for worship and for our class time, but please understand the situation remains fluid and many more decisions will be necessitated in the coming weeks. Given that, we ask that you follow these guidelines:

Worship and Large Group Gatherings

Recommendations from the elders:

Before attending any public assembly, including our worship assembly, classes, or ministry events, we ask that close attention is given to possible COVID-19 symptoms which would include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you believe you are developing symptoms, please do not attend for your safety and those with whom you may come in contact.

We recognize this is a difficult decision and we value our time together, but we are also concerned for your health and safety. We are family.

Self-quarantined individuals and families, young families, and elderly individuals, especially those with chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, lung disease and other chronic respiratory diseases, may wish to take advantage of our online worship service.

Be a part of our worship assembly online. Connect through Facebook or at

Home communion is available. Please see Dave Lasseter if you need any.

You can always mail in your contribution or drop it off at the church office during the week. We are also currently looking at an online giving system.

Greeting One Another:

While we enjoy our handshakes and hugs, we could be putting ourselves and others at risk. Let’s all agree that a friendly nod or wave are all perfectly acceptable forms of greeting.

The CDC reminds us of the importance of basic hygiene practices:

  • Avoid contact with people who are sick

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth to protect others

  • Stay at home if you are sick

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue clean

  • Disinfect frequently touched objects

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.

We are committed to providing a safe and clean environment for you and your family. All restrooms, children’s classrooms, and nurseries are thoroughly sanitized after use.

Watch for updates. This is a fluid situation and there will be more decisions to be made in the days to come. Please check your email, watch for calls from Rainbow’s phone tree system, and check social media often and we will keep you informed.

May God bless you. We pray that you remain safe.
